In the last episode of Disney+ Kdrama Unmasked, Ga-yeon’s stalker turns out to be Ho-seong and a close colleague who turned into a fan girl for a murderer. Meanwhile, Hae-won continues to pursue Han Do but for what reason? So-ryong struggles with the knowledge of Han Do being Dr Trigger, but is more concerned about the consequences of others learning the truth. The episode also made a good point on gossiping about others, especially those one considers close, and showcases the devastating consequences of it.

Unmasked Episode 8 Recap

The episode starts with Han Do and Hae-won out on a “date” — well, it’s a “kidnapping” and Hae-won sends a photo of Han Do to So-ryong to get to rush to save him. While So-ryong arrives, Han Do asks her why she is back in Korea after spending 20 years abroad. She confesses that she wants to use the media to get her father’s attention and then proceeds to tell him that she killed Seong-wook by spiking his wine. Unfortunately, he spills wine on her and by the time he comes back with tissues, she disappears. So-ryong arrives at the scene soon and he fills her in on everything that took place.

The next day, Hyeong-tae asks Han Do to stop So-rong from going after the prosecutor who stopped Ho-seong’s prison sentence in exchange for transferring him to another show. Meanwhile, there seems to be something afoot with Na-hee and Dae-yong, a secret from years ago surfacing, while Hae-won baits Han Do once more, asking him whether he wants to know the truth behind So-ryong rushing to visit them.

Na-hee eventually opens up about Dae-yong’s shadiness to So-ryong and shows her the picture that she found from the time Hae-won first resurfaced. She tells him about the former head writer of Trigger and asks So-ryong whether she really trusts Dae-yong because the latter had asked her for the contact details of the former chief producer Ma Seong-chun and they met up recently. Na-hee implores her to not trust anyone when it comes to the Seong-wook case and that Dae-yong and Hyeong-tae were inseparable at one time. Plus, Dae-yong joined Trigger 20 years ago to take over for Hyeong-tae.

Armed with a ton of new information, So-ryong meets Dae-yong and asks him about the Seong-wook case. Her threats make him spill the beans about Hyeong-tae hiding the Seong-wook case tapes before they could be aired, which takes So-ryong by surprise. She implores him to do the right thing and fight for justice against Hyeong-tae but Dae-yong shares that with all the responsibilities on his shoulders, he can’t take the chance of losing his job, especially when justice might not even be served at the end. So-ryong decides to meet Hyeong-tae anyway, with or without him.

The next day, So-ryong and Dae-yong meet Seong-chun, who tells them that Hyeong-tae had found a witness to the murder years ago — Seong-wook’s dog. However, So-ryong does find a good lead and realises that tape 890 could contain the mystery that she is trying to figure out since it was the decoy story to keep intruders at bay. She takes the tape to Hyeong-tae and accuses him of trying to cover up a crime. She asks him to come clean about the entire thing but when he refuses, she promises to bring the truth out in the open.

Back at the office, Dae-yong tells So-ryong about the animal communicator and vows to help get the truth out. As planned, Han Do rushes to meet the animal communicator with Gi-ho, who shares the horrifying things that he witnessed on the night of the murder. Although they don’t get to know who was behind the murder, they get to interview the prosecutor behind Ho-seong’s prison sentence order and have a rather tough time getting anything out of him. Eventually, Gi-ho is able to get the follow-up on the Ho-seong case as he was wanted while Han Do gets the go-ahead from the gum company that agrees to pay for Seong-won’s AI picture enhancement.

While Trigger celebrates its small wins, we learn that years ago Hyeong-tae had murdered Seong-wook’s dog and is now paying off the vet who let him adopt Bom. Meanwhile, at Trigger, it turns out to be Na-hee’s last day and she asks Ji-yun to take over for her and bids a tearful goodbye to Dae-yong. The next day, Han Do, So-ryong and Seong-wook’s father wait for the unveiling of Seong-wook’s new and updated poster and is overtaken by emotions when he sees the AI-enhanced video. Hyeong-tae, however, is not happy with the state of affairs and, by the looks of it, neither is Hae-won as she agrees to meet So-ryong.

In the epilogue, we see Hyeong-tae watching unseen footage from the Seong-wook case 20 years ago and it contains an interview with Hae-won.

Unmasked Episode 8 Review

The mystery continues to get better and better as the performances get stronger with every episode. It doesn’t as always, give away any clues as to what awaits team Trigger, but there’s a storm brewing that one can’t ignore. The episode comes with a ton of ups and downs and it was another fantastic nail-biter with a ton of twists. We are yet to see how they will come to fruition, but I am sure it’s going to be thrilling. One can only wait and watch!
