Bering Sea Gold’s Shawn and Steve Pomrenke went into business together in the gold mining industry. They came to blows over a $1.5 million deal which saw Steve accuse his son of “ripping him off”.
With a massive wad of cash on the line, Discovery Channel‘s Gold Divers saw father and son go head-to-head over a major deal. Previously, they had half of the business each, until they made a risky agreement.
Bering Sea Gold stars had $1.5M deal
Shawn Pomrenke came to a head with his father, Steve, who claimed his son has been “ripping him off” ever since he went into business with him. Previously, they owned half of the Pomrenke Empire each.
The father and son made a deal that Steve would sell Shawn his half for $1.5 million, meaning he would own the entire business. They shook on the plan, but two years after, Steve had not retired.
“Now he just basically avoids me, all I hear is he’s trying to tweak the deal, trying to squeeze more money out of me,” said Shawn, adding that his father “isn’t running the business as efficiently as he would.”
With the gold mine not making the profit it should, in Shawn’s opinion, it causes a huge risk for their security as the TV stars rely on the inland for a “huge amount of their income”.
Shawn Pomrenke clashes with father
Shawn reveals the season has been rough, but the time has come to close a deal with his Dad. “If the empire is going to keep moving forward, I have to get it done no matter how ugly it gets,” he said.
He waited for his father to show up and come to an agreement. Fully braced for yelling and screaming, Shawn shouted at Steve, “You wonder why I’m f***ed? I’m f***ed because I don’t like people.”
Steve responds, “I don’t like you either and the way you’ve been ripping me off ever since I went into business with you.” Shawn told his father he puts a lot of time into the business.
However, this led to more shouting as Steve insists he’s owed half, to which an angry Shawn replied, “So what, I get nothing?” before Steve said it’s “not his goddamn fault.”
Shawn shouts, “I’m not going to stand down any more,” but Steve bluntly warns: “We will see you in court and then you will be eating dust.” Despite being family, Shawn claims “business is business.”
Pomrenke Mining is actively engaged in gold mining exploration, off shore and on shore. In the end, all the gold is believed to have gone into one pot, but fans felt it was scripted for TV.
