Cynthia Erivo responded to a rumor that has had Wicked fans looking forward to the 2025 Oscars.
By now, you’ve likely seen fans online speculating that she and Ariana Grande would be opening the awards ceremony in March with a medley of hits from their Oscar-nominated movie.
It’s unclear where the rumor started. However, Cynthia had some bad news about it.

While attending the 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards, Cynthia revealed that the rumor that she and Ariana were opening the Oscars was untrue.
“Why does everyone keep saying that? I don’t know where this has come from,” she told Variety. “This feels like wishful thinking to me, personally. Why on Earth would we be singing?”
She continued, confirming that they were not singing.
“People are asking me if we’re going to be singing at the Oscars. I don’t know why we would be doing that, since our song is not nominated. That doesn’t happen. I don’t know what to tell you,” Cynthia added.
It is usually tradition that the performances during the Oscars are from those who are nominated for Best Original Song. However, this year the ceremony is breaking from tradition.
