The RHONY ladies are back this fall, and they’re bringing all kinds of drama to their Bravo show. As season 15 unfolds, fans see the ladies head to The Hamptons, deal with illnesses in their families, go through IVF, and face obstacles in their marriages.
It’s safe to say tensions are running high during The Real Housewives of New York this season, and newbie Racquel Chevremont has her co-stars emotional. The mom of two shares a story about her childhood which is totally eye-opening. She explains how she changed her surname at just 12 years old.
Racquel Chevremont breaks down
Racquel Chevremont, 53, is a RHONY newbie that Jenna Lyons has said she’s really happy to have on board.
Not only do Jenna and Racquel have the same sexual orientation, but Jenna loves the fact she’s slightly older than the other cast members, too.
Jenna previously spoke of feeling “divided” from her cast mates on the show, and even considered not returning for a second season until she heard Racquel was involved.
During season 15, episode 4, fans find out more about the newcomer’s life as she breaks down over her childhood.
The ladies enjoy a tennis lesson led by a French instructor which prompts the ladies to ask Racquel where her surname, Chevremont, comes from.
She tells her co-stars: “Puerto Ricans are very mixed. But, the French name that I have isn’t actually my father’s last name.
“I have absolutely no relationship with my father,” she says.
Racquel changed her surname at 12 years old
As Racquel explains how she got her French last name, she details a heartbreaking story about her childhood.
Speaking of her estranged father, she reveals: “My mother left him when I was about one, so when I was 11 I wanted to know who my father was.”
Racquel explains how her mom reached out to her father’s brother and got his number.
She tells her RHONY co-stars: “I called and a woman picked up, so then she asked who I was and I said I was his daughter. Well, that didn’t go over well, and then I got a call from him telling me never to call the house again.”
Racquel adds how her mom then called her father’s brother again to tell him what happened.
“He lost it and he reached out to my father and said ‘You can’t do this sh**, this is your daughter, she wants to see you..’. and he invited me to Thanksgiving.”
The RHONY star was 12 years old when she met a brother and sister of hers at the Thanksgiving: “By the end of the night, you know those machine photos where you can go in and take your picture, he cut them, handed one to each of us and was like ‘Nice knowing ya’, basically.”
Through tears, Racquel explains: “He was a complete d***, and so I went home and I was like I don’t want this man’s name, I’m gonna do some sh** with my life.”
She told her mother she wanted to change her last name, adding: “I don’t want him to ever be able to claim me.”
Sobbing on the tennis court, Racquel wanted to take her mom’s last name, but her mom said: “No, my father was an a**hole, too. So, we just went down the family line and found a name.”
Her co-stars, Jessel Taank and Brynn Whifield, apologized and consoled Racquel as she told the heartbreaking story.
